Grants Consultant (Freelance, Contract)
The National Foster Youth Institute (NFYI) is seeking a skilled grant writer and organized project manager to provide contract-based support for our fundraising efforts. This role is structured as a professional services contract, focused on delivering high-quality grant proposals and grant reports that help sustain NFYI’s mission and programs.

NFYI brings together foster youth, policymakers, and community partners to transform the child welfare system. We ensure that youth with lived experience are not only heard but positioned as leaders in driving change at the local, state, and federal levels.
Scope of Work
The Consultant will provide the following services:
Grant Writing & Proposal Development
Research and identify funding opportunities aligned with NFYI’s mission.
Draft and edit compelling grant proposals that highlight NFYI’s programs and impact.
Gather stories, data, and input from NFYI staff to strengthen proposals.
Maintain updated proposal templates and core language for efficiency.
Grant Management & Reporting
Coordinate with NFYI staff to prepare timely and accurate funder reports.
Ensure that reports communicate NFYI’s impact and meet funder requirements.
Organize and maintain grant-related records.
Other development-related tasks as agreed.
Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in nonprofit development, grant writing, grant tracking, or project management.
Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Comfort working independently and proactively in a remote environment.
U.S.-based, with ability to connect virtually with NFYI staff during business hours as needed.
Familiarity with child welfare, youth development, or social justice is a plus.
Commitment to NFYI’s mission of uplifting foster youth voices.
Contract Details
Title: Grants Consultant (Independent Contractor)
Compensation: $30,000 annual contract (paid monthly or per deliverable, to be negotiated)
Location: Remote (U.S.-based)
Schedule: Flexible; consultant sets their own hours to complete deliverables
