Development Associate
THE ORGANIZATION
Tanenbaum promotes justice and builds respect for religious difference by transforming individuals
and institutions to reduce prejudice, hatred, and violence.
As a secular and non-sectarian non-profit, Tanenbaum works to promote religious peacebuilders
who help counter extremism and violence in armed conflicts, and tackles religious bullying of
students, harassment in workplaces, and disparate health treatment for people based on their
beliefs.
THE PROGRAM
The Development Associate will work collaboratively with the Development Department. They will
manage the donor database (Donor Perfect) and ensure excellent data integrity while supporting
the overall fundraising activity of the organization through research, institutional giving support and
other administrative activity. This role is a great entry point into the nonprofit development field.
This is an hourly, hybrid position; however, candidates must reside in the New York City area and
be available to work onsite as needed.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Development Associate reports to the Assistant Director, Institutional Giving. Responsibilities
include but are not limited to the following:
Research and make recommendations based on the research for prospective funding, including:
o Corporate foundations (through corporate social responsibility and other efforts)
o Foundations (public, private, family)
o Government funding opportunities (city, state and federal)
Assist with sponsorship, grant, and other funding submissions, as well as donor
outreach.
Maintain trackers and databases to track institutional giving activity.
Attend meetings as needed and take notes.
Accurately enter and maintain donor contributions in the database.
Write and send timely acknowledgment letters to donors.
Generate reports from donation database as needed.
Provide the CEO, Director of Development, and Assistant Director, Institutional Giving
with donor giving histories, donation analytics and financial reporting as needed.
Assist with events as needed.
Perform additional administrative and development-related tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Commitment to and nuanced understanding of the mission and goals of Tanenbaum
Experience with Donor Perfect or similar donor database
Exceptional research skills
Excellent administrative and computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Ability to think strategically, analyze data, and present analysis clearly
Effective and creative writing skills
Highly organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new systems
Flexibility to work both independently and collaboratively
Sense of humor

HOURLY COMPENSATION RANGE
$22.00 per hour. Maximum of 17 hours per week.
WORK PRODUCT
All work produced for Tanenbaum by the employee is the work product of Tanenbaum and may not
be used by the employee outside of Tanenbaum-authorized activities.
