Communications and Advocacy Manager (Part-Time)


Food Connect is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the gaps in our food system to build healthier communities. We’re passionate about leveraging technology, storytelling, and real-time collaboration to create a more thoughtful, sustainable, and connected food system.

We are seeking a dynamic and hands-on part time Communications & Advocacy Manager to lead external communications, partner with our founder on key messaging and narrative strategy, and track communications performance metrics across the organization. The ideal candidate is both a storyteller and a strategist - someone who can translate vision into content, and content into impact.

This role is remote, part-time, and will report directly to the Founder and Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

Communications Strategy & Content Ownership

  • Own and manage Food Connect’s communication calendar, messaging priorities, and digital advocacy campaigns

  • Draft and distribute monthly newsletters, ensuring alignment with organizational milestones and fundraising needs

  • Translate the founder’s vision and organizational strategy into compelling content for partners, donors, and the broader public

  • Write, edit, and manage core communications such as press releases, donor letters, updates, and one-pagers

  • Collaborate with design team (including graphic designer) to produce branded, high-quality visual content

Advocacy, Visibility & Thought Leadership

  • Partner with leadership to elevate Food Connect’s presence across advocacy platforms, coalitions, and media

  • Draft talking points, op-eds, and thought leadership content that reflects the organization’s mission and tone

  • Support and amplify the voice of the founder through consistent messaging, interview prep, and speechwriting

Metrics, KPIs & Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Set and track KPIs across communication channels (newsletters, social media, media mentions, open rates, etc.)

  • Use data insights to refine messaging strategies and demonstrate impact to stakeholders

  • Work closely with development, program, and partnership teams to align on message timing, content needs, and outreach goals

Candidate Qualifications and Traits:

  • 5–7 years of experience in nonprofit communications, advocacy, or public affairs

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills

  • Proven ability to own and manage projects from start to finish with minimal supervision

  • Experience tracking communication KPIs and presenting performance data clearly

  • Tech-savvy, with familiarity using tools like Mailchimp, Google Analytics, Canva, or equivalent

  • High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven, and remote environment

  • Passion for food justice, equity, and community-centered work
