Bookkeeper & Administrative Assistant (Contract, Freelance)
Reports to: Kate Lesta, Principal
Pay: $25-33 / hr, depending on livable wage for your location and level of experience
Status: Part Time 20-25 hrs per week, Independent Contractor with potential to develop into a full time employment position
Schedule: Fully Remote, actual working hours are flexible. Owner is in the San Francisco Bay Area.
About:
Kate Lesta is an independent consultant offering full-charge bookkeeping, budget development, grants management and creative project advising to nonprofits, fiscally sponsored projects, independent businesses, and impact-based organizations, with priority focused LGBTQIA2+, BIPOC and Womxn led endeavors. I do all-things-accounting leading up to tax prep, and I work closely with tax preparers.
For 20 years prior to launching my accounting practice, I co-created community platforms for self-expression such as festivals, events, performances, exhibitions and tours. My extensive experience in creative project direction provided years of training in budget management and project accounting prior to studying bookkeeping practices and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). I am a Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional. This work is integral to my artistic practice and cultural activism.
Qualifications:
Experience with basic bookkeeping and accounts payable
Experience with Excel, Quickbooks Online, Google Workspace
Experience with digital file management, calendaring and note taking
Ability to maintain client confidentiality and security of financial data
Ability to take rapid notes in real time
Understanding of nonprofit and for profit business accounting
Understanding of US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
Collaborative mindset with solution oriented approach and the ability to ask for and offer help
Active listener and avid, direct communicator
Non-profit organization experience
Quickbooks Online ProAdvisor Certification is a plus

Responsibilities:
Admin
Maintain internal SOPs for practice and clients
Maintain client record keeping including data folders in Dropbox and Google Drive
Track documents needed from clients
Find solutions creatively and proactively
Maintain practice calendar for both client facing and internal team needs
Communicate with Lead Bookkeeper and Principal on tasks, deliverables, deadlines and other client needs
Bookkeeping
Enter client transactions on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
Review client suspense transactions with Lead Bookkeeper or Principal as needed
Create and pay client bills (accounts payable)
Maintain and generate client worksheets
